Qualcomm will soon announce the latest Snapdragon 898 processor. But the rumors are that the performance of this newest processor is not as fast as the next generation.
Qualcomm’s latest processor, Snapdragon 898, is expected to be announced at the end of November 2021. This possibility emerged after the chipset manufacturer from the United States announced on his website. A large banner with a picture of a boat with water trails and the words “More are coming soon!” was written on the official Qualcomm website.
Of course, the announcement indicates the possible release of the new chipset at the Snapdragon Summit, which will be held from November 29 to December 2, 2021. However, Qualcomm did not provide additional information, and no official release plans were revealed from the site. Now, the latest rumors say that the chipset, which will be the successor to the Snapdragon 888, has a performance that is not faster than the previous generation.
Quoting Wccftech.com, a tipster named Ice Universe said that he got information about what to expect from the new chipset. He mentioned that the Snapdragon 898 chipset would improve the GPU, ISP, and AI sectors.
But he also added that the Snapdragon 898 chipset will still use the same CPU configuration as the previous generation, namely the tri-cluster configuration. Later this single core chipset will use the Kyro 780, which is based on Cortex X2 and runs at a speed of 3.09 GHz. The other three cores will use the Kryo 780 based on the Cortex-A710 and run at 2.4 GHz. Lastly, there will be four Kryo 780 cores which are likely based on the Cortex-A510 and will run at 1.8GHz.
Interestingly, the Snapdragon 898 SoC will use Samsung’s 4 nm fabrication. This fabrication will usually provide better CPU performance, lower power consumption, and lower temperatures. But tipster Ice Universe is worried that this will not be the case in the latest SoC announced by Qualcomm because the Snapdragon 898 SoC will have a CPU performance that is not much different from the Snapdragon 888.
But this still has to be validated through real testing. It is predicted that smartphones that will use the Snapdragon 898 chipset include Apple and Google on the Pixel 6. Several other smartphone manufacturers are also using the latest Qualcomm chipset in 2022, such as Vivo and Samsung. On Samsung devices, the Galaxy S22 and Galaxy Tab S8 will likely use this new chipset.
