P-Core is a CPU core used to process fast performance tasks, such as games and creative applications. While E-Core is present to process most minor tasks that usually run in the background, such as anti-virus applications to system updates.

The latest core configuration allows processing in the CPU to run more optimally overall. Ultimately, the P-Core and E-Core configurations in the 12th Gen Intel Core H Series can provide significant performance improvements over previous generation CPUs.

Intel Core i7-12700H was used in the test unit, for example. The high-performance CPU has 6 P-Core and 8 E-Cores with 14 cores and 20 threads (each P-Core has two threads, while E-Core has one thread) with processing speeds of up to 4.7GHz. For each P-Core and E-Core to communicate optimally with the operating system, Intel also brings a feature called Thread Director into the 12th Gen Intel Core H Series CPU. Thread Director is tasked to determine which process will be done by P-Core or E-Core.
