Suspected of being a member of the LAPSUS$ Hack, 7 Teens Arrested

London police have arrested 7 teenagers on suspicion of links to a hacking group believed to be the LAPSUS$ group. “London City Police have launched an investigation with partners into members of the hacking group,” Detective Superintendent Michael O’Sullivan of the City of London Police told The Verge.

“Seven people between the ages of 16 and 21 have been arrested in connection with this investigation and all have been released for investigation. Our investigation is still ongoing.”

Lapsus$ has been responsible for several major hacks from tech companies like NVIDIA, Samsung, Ubisoft, Okta, and Microsoft. A few days ago, reports from Bloomberg indicated a teenager based in Oxford was the mastermind of the group. City of London police did not reveal whether the teenager was among those arrested.

Krebs on Security later reported that at least one LAPSUS$ member appeared to be involved with the data hack at EA. VICE later confirmed the report saying that their hack was “the epitome of the next and massive LAPSUS$ hack”.

The suspect’s identity was revealed by angry customers. According to a report by Krebs on Security, the leader of the group bought Doxbin, a site where people can share or find personal information about other people, but he is a bad owner of the site.

He gave up control of the site in January 2022, but leaked “the entire Doxbin dataset” to Telegram and the Doxbin community retaliated against this by leaking it.

BBC News said they had spoken to the teen’s father in question. “I had never heard of any of this until recently. He never talks about any hacking, but he is very good at computers and spends a lot of time on computers,” said the father.

“I always thought he was playing a game. We will try to stop our child from using the computer.”
