GTA Trilogy The Definitive Edition is finally a nostalgia cure for gamers, but is it worth owning? Check out the review here.

Rockstar Games has finally released Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC via Rockstar Games Launcher. This game contains three titles of the old GTA game series that have been “upgraded,” namely Grand Theft Auto III, Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, and Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas.

However, on the day of the launch of Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition to various modern gaming platforms (console and PC). It turns out that some gamers are sad because they can’t play it right away even though they have bought it, namely PC user gamers.

Since Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition has just been released on Rockstar Games Launcher, the game must be unplayable for more than 15 hours! Therefore, PC gamers who have made pre-order purchases for a long time must feel disappointed because they cannot be played simultaneously.

The author had the opportunity to review Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition PC version from Rockstar Games. After being patient enough, the author was finally able to play this game on PC and started the first nostalgic adventure through Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas – The Definitive Edition, then Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Grand Theft Auto III.

After playing the three series, here is the author’s review of Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition for the PC version that might be your consideration before buying it. Let’s see together the following.

Nostalgic Storyline, No Change

As a big GTA fan, you must be very familiar with the journey of CJ and the Grove Street Family (GSF) gang in San Andreas. Next is the story of Mafia member Forelli, Tommy Vercetti, and finally, a criminal named Claude who has to do “dirty work” to earn money.

Because the author has played all three of the GTA series, playing back this version of the Definitive Edition is like reminiscing. What’s more, no story has been changed from these three series, so the author is only really presented with changes in graphic quality.

Graphics Upgrade that Feels Less Maximum

GTA Trilogy The Definitive Edition

As a veteran gamer who had played the three GTA series on old PCs and PS2 consoles at that time, the author feels that playing this Definitive Edition version has gotten a pretty good graphic improvement. However, compared to the GTA IV or GTA V series, of course, the quality provided is undoubtedly very far away.

The author enjoyed completing every mission presented and completing the storylines of the three GTA Definitive Edition series. The author understands that Rockstar Games does not want to lose the originality of the three series, so they still maintain all assets and try to polish them to make them look smoother.

Of course, it’s impossible to expect a graphics upgrade like GTA IV or GTA V because the budget spent to remodel the game will cost a lot of money. No wonder Rockstar Games appointed Groves Street Games to work on this version of the Definitive Edition.

If you want to develop something special, Rockstar Games should appoint several studios under its auspices, such as Rockstar North or Rockstar San Diego. But the authors suspect the main studio is working on a more special project that Rockstar Games still keeps secret. So they appointed Grove Street Games, which also had time to work on the Bully Anniversary Edition game for mobile devices.

Therefore, the release of Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition in the first week was filled with complaints of various kinds of bugs and errors that went viral on social media. Not even a few are disappointed with the overhaul made by Grove Street Games to the three GTA series, where this led to negative reviews given by gamers to the three versions of the Definitive Edition GTA series.

The author also found bugs and felt less “comfortable” with the graphics upgrades made to the three GTA series. However, the writer understands that only one studio is working on the three series. Although Grove Street Games studio does specialize in enhancing and porting games, doing so in all three games at once requires a huge effort. Moreover, the porting work is usually done with a short grace period, so a few things usually go unnoticed before it’s finally released in full.

Stay Comfortable on Potato PC

The author himself has a PC that is not superior, but the author was surprised when playing Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition because the game can run smoothly without any problems, even frame drops. The author uses an AMD A10-7850K processor PC specification coupled with a GTX 750 Ti, 8 GB of RAM. The author tries to tamper with graphic settings starting from low, medium, high, and ultra while still setting 60 FPS. The result? Games run fine with frame rates that don’t drop.

With these settings, the author plays at a resolution of 1366×768. Even with high graphics settings, the three GTA Definitive Edition series runs very smoothly. After trying to play for a while, the second thing besides this game’s “nice” graphics is the controls. Controlling with the keyboard and mouse, especially the gamepad, is equally fun. There’s no awkwardness at all. Especially for those of you who often play GTA V, according to the author, it feels similar.

Not only does the control system feel lighter, the music and voice actors, according to the author, are also getting better. The author thinks that the resulting sound becomes more detailed and feels very clear, so the author is quite amazed by the sound part of the three GTA series.

Fixed Bugs GTA Trilogy The Definitive Edition

Who would have thought that the bug that used to be in the original GTA San Andreas was also still in The Definitive Edition version. Flying car bugs with truck monsters, tear gas bugs, walking bugs or using vehicles in the sea, gym bugs, first mission bug where if you kill a ballast member, you won’t be chased again by red cars, and many other phenomenal bugs can still be found. You guys “enjoy” here. But this seems to have become a “feature,” yes, no longer a phenomenal bug.

Modder Support GTA Trilogy The Definitive Edition

Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition might be a disappointing game released by Rockstar Games. Starting from the graphics that feel less than optimal, annoying bugs, release delays for the PC version, and so on. But behind that, these three games still get great support from modders. Even when it rained in the very annoying GTA III series, modders could finally handle it. It didn’t stop there; the modders also saved their favorite game by making a mod that could fix texture problems in the game. This proves that Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition is still loved even though gamers have given insults.

The author himself estimates that Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition will continue to grow with the support of modders who make it look cooler than the original version.

Conclusion GTA Trilogy The Definitive Edition

Rockstar Games had said at the beginning of the announcement of Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition that this game, in terms of graphics, will experience improvements that are adapted to today’s technology. However, it will still retain its classic elements. Well, if that’s the point, then here’s the result.

The three GTA Definitive Edition series are disappointing because they do not match expectations to have a character shape like the GTA V series. But behind that, Rockstar Games chose to maintain the character’s shape so that it still looks like the original. Even so, gamers can still feel the improved graphics quality through better textures and lighting than the original version.

Although it is priced at a price that is not cheap, the author leaves it entirely to GTA fans. Whether the price is expensive or normal, if it’s expensive, maybe you can wait until Rockstar Games gives a discount for the game.

If you have to give a rating, it seems that a rating of 3.5 out of 5 stars is enough to represent the author’s enjoyment when playing this game again.
