Another masterpiece from Ubisoft Studios. This time what they present is the FPS Open-World game belonging to Far Cry. Moving on from the Post-Apocalyptic setting, Far Cry 6 will invite you to an adventure in a small fictional country located on the Caribbean island. This Review will present a simple review of Far Cry 6. Is this series different from the previous series?
The Far Cry franchise has been on hiatus for approximately two years since the release of the Spin-Off series, namely Far Cry: New Dawn. At that time, Ubisoft was also focusing on Assassin’s Creed Valhalla and Watch Dogs Legion. The Far Cry 6 franchise special came from the well-known Antagonist actor Giancarlo Esposito, who played Anton Castillo in this game.
As we already know, this game is indeed famous for its iconic Villain Characters and its Free Action Survival Mechanics. We can see this again in their Far Cry 6 game. It’s just that, what makes this game different, you can find in terms of Gameplay and Perspectives that they managed to take. In addition, the stories they bring up will have the smell of politics and revolution.
1. Plot Smells Political and Social Inequality
Yara is a beautiful country filled with thick Cuban culture. This country has just held an election by appointing the charismatic figure of Anton Castillo as a President. What they don’t know is that Anton is the son of a cruel dictator. Then, as a child, Anton finally passed down the nature of his father, who had power and an iron fist. He also has a son named Diego, who will be his successor.
Anton Castillo has chosen to fulfill the dream of the Yara people as a country of Heaven. When a natural resource found in Viviro is a medicinal tobacco leaf that can cure cancer, the goal is to realize. For Anton, this leaf is a bridge to make his country prosperous. To that end, he hired his people at random to grow crops and started supplying medicine to other countries.
Anton’s goal must have sounded lofty until he discovered that Viviro’s leaves would only grow using toxic fertilizers. Many workers started getting severe illnesses and died while growing using this fertilizer. Seeing his opportunities fading, Anton decided to do forced labor on his people to continue production. Rebellion arose, and Anton began to unleash brutal violence.
In the game, you will play as Dani Rojas, Yara’s ex-military before the election of Anton. He has ambitions to keep his friend’s promise, who was killed by an ambush by Anton’s troops (Fuerzas Nacionales de Defensa) on a fishing boat. He joined Libertad, a Yara revolution group formed by former CIA Juan Cortez to destroy the fascist regime of Anton Castillo.
2. Storytelling From a Third Perspective That Ends Satisfactorily
The storytelling in Far Cry 6 has dramatically improved. The reason is, in this game, Ubisoft begins to take the emphasis on a third-person perspective to tell stories. Unlike the previous Far Cry, you can see the main character’s appearance and choose the gender. Each character also pours out his expression and role very well. So that the player can more easily find out the emotional form he feels.
Anton Castillo is a president. He is a figure that is difficult for us to approach or kill. Like the previous Far Cry game, Dani had to defeat Anton’s subordinates which contained the Generals. Dani’s adventure will begin when the Libertad troops begin to target Yara’s many military facilities. You have to take over the Outposts, Roadblocks, and Convoy Yara, widespread in 5 different Regions.
Choosing Giancarlo Esposito to play the villain in this game was the right move for Ubisoft. The reason is, Giancarlo already knows what he has to do to shape the character of Anton Castillo, who has strength and authority. He is not afraid to pose a veiled threat in every emotion and tone of his voice. Although cruel, Anton managed to reflect the figure of Teacher and Father in the child.
Having the impression of a violent story, Far Cry 6 seems to have provided some emotional and Humorous elements. Even so, it seems that the humor they provide is more dominant but still emphasizes its boundaries. On the other hand, the stories they offer are pretty simple and easy to guess. The various twists conveyed are indeed lacking in innovation. But in terms of writing, this one series is undoubtedly the best.
In addition to the emphasis on Third Person, this game also provides two different ideological perspectives. Anton and Libertad both want to create a prosperous country. Both camps will do anything for their dreams. Anton’s son, Diego, will be a neutral character that separates bad and good on both sides. Yup, at the end of the game, you can conclude for yourself who has the right to control Yara.
3. Broader Gameplay Formula and Focused on Game Style
In terms of gameplay, Far Cry 6 hasn’t changed much. As usual, this game also brings back the concept of a Gun-Play Action Shooter. You can also use the Stealth element if you want. On the other hand, what makes the game memorable focuses on various weapon variants that you can choose. It doesn’t stop there, and players must also prioritize the available Crafting elements.
Speaking of Crafting, Far Cry 6 manages to improve the Crafting formula, which is much broader. You can find this from Crafting Attachments, Arsenal, Vehicles, and Base Camps. As far as playing experience, they also expand each crafting component with various Junk items that you can use. You are no longer hunting and looking for animal skins in this game. Instead, look for equipment such as Scrap Metal and others.
Switching from Crafting elements, Far Cry 6 finally carries an RPG-style formula. For that, Ubisoft removed the Skill Tree system and added a leveling system for every gear you use. They implement this because each enemy in the game also has a different level. Formulas like this limit players from committing mass killings like the previous Far Cry games.
In addition to weapons and modified vehicles, this game provides a choice of Sidekick (Amigos) in the form of pets. Players can bring Crocodile (Guapo), Dog (Chorizo), Chicken (Chicharron), or Phanter (Oluso) to defeat the enemies. For example, each animal has its class, a crocodile that can kill opponents and a dog as a distraction. You can get them all through Main Missions and Quests.
Ubisoft has confirmed that they have included 50 variations of the weapon in the game. You can add all these weapons using Hand Made Attachments and use different types of Ammunition. In addition, you can create unique weapons such as the Nail Thrower, Flame Thrower, DVD Thrower, and Motorbike Minigun. However, the most interesting is the rocket launcher backpack named SUPREMO.
4. Side Activities and Mini-Games That Make You Enjoy Playing
Another significant improvement is coming from the Side Quest side. Far Cry 6 managed to offer 29 Side Missions with the title “Yaran Tale.” In this mission, you will meet various stories to discover the problems of Dani’s friends, Libertad members, or Yara natives. Cool thing, Yaran Tale will play a role in providing a side of life on the island of Yara that does not escape from social or political problems.
As you already know, in the last few weeks, Far Cry 6 has received a warm discussion about the existence of the Cockfighting feature in the game. This feature is present as the Mini-Game Far Cry 6, which they polished with Mortal Kombat-style fighting mechanics. What makes the mode interesting, Ubisoft is not half-hearted. It provides a large selection of Chickens with different skills and interesting Combo mechanics.
Continuing this, we can do other activities such as fishing, playing Dominoes, or hunting for treasures. For fishing mode, they deliberately enter it only to meet the needs of Collectibles items. But for Treasure Hunt, Ubisoft provides its challenge in the form of a puzzle containing a large number of additional money Rewards. This mission is not very rewarding, but it is worth trying.
Continuing, Ubisoft did not forget to add Co-Op Mode to this game. That’s right, Far Cry 6, you can enjoy the whole story by playing Co-Op with friends. However, this is not enough balance from the Combat side because the AI in this game is not satisfactory. Even when you play Single Player, the AI from Far Cry 6 still seems insensitive to the situation and is not afraid of danger.
5. A Wilder and More Open Concept of Exploration
Yara has succeeded in reflecting the appearance of the beautiful state of Cuba. In this game, you will find five different regions with a vast scale. Each region also has its own identity from the structure of the building and also its culture. This can be proved by the mini-game of connecting chicken, which apparently can be found in the rural Yara people.
Although very beautiful, Yara is quite a dangerous place. This game provides unique spots that are closely guarded by the authorities. There are some areas that you can’t pass through the air before destroying the Outpost. That’s why the Libertad Warriors decided to build an underground tunnel. Later, you can pass through this place freely on foot like a real guerrilla.
In terms of visual presentation, each region in this game has been present with the concept of social inequality. That’s right, and we can visit the open nature, urban areas, and slum villages that are neglected. In addition, because of the vast map present, players rely more on the Fast Travel feature that you can unlock during progress. If you enjoy the view more, then the visuals of this game are also very indulgent.
Unlike the previous series, Far Cry 6 also does not forget to give players the freedom to explore. You will get a wide selection of complete vehicles with a modification system. Examples include Cars, Helicopters, Planes, Jetskis, and Horses. Cool again, you can even make your favorite car float using a paraglider or armed with dual miniguns.
Far Cry 6 Review Conclusion
Far Cry 6 is the best Far Cry series I’ve played so far. Ubisoft has again succeeded in bringing up new themes and settings that are no less relevant to our social life. By introducing a villain with a complex ideology, making Far Cry 6 has a more natural story. In addition, choosing a third-person perspective makes this game successful in delivering the emotional sense of its characters to the maximum.
Continuing, the indulgent Voice Actor makes each character give the impression of a close relationship in a different form of understanding. It doesn’t stop there. Ubisoft doesn’t forget to give players the freedom to explore to their heart’s content. Not to mention that all the Main missions in this game dynamically shape to provide something fresh.
Although Far Cry 6 still presents a sense of humor that is not too excessive. In addition, in terms of gameplay, they have expanded this game with many unusual side activities. As if still not satisfied, Ubisoft finally removed the Skill Tree system that was a complaint. Of course, the plan was replaced with a more flexible Upgrade to meet a flexible playing style.
Despite all this, Far Cry 6 is certainly not a completely perfect game. There are still many things that are their homework to make this game even better. You can find this through AI , which is still bad, and the story’s twist is too light for us to guess. Nevertheless, we will not be bored to invite you to play this one game, especially for you fans of Far Cry before.
For those of you who haven’t tried this game, now is the time to try it. You can play Far Cry six itself on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series platforms. PC users can buy the game directly through the Epic Games Store and Ubisoft Store. Do you want to liberate Yara Island from Anton Castillo’s iron fist?
