Last June 2021, Square Enix held a “Summer Showcase E3 2021” event through its YouTube account. There they share the latest information regarding the games that are being prepared. One of the games being scheduled and released in October 2021 is Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy.
Guardians of the Galaxy is one of the collaboration results between Square Enix and Marvel in developing several new game titles. The first game that was introduced was Marvel’s Avengers.
As the title suggests, this game will tell the story of the journey of the Guardians of the Galaxy. The background in this game is when Star Lord, Groot, Rocket Raccoon, Gamora, and Drax just joined as a team.
So, let’s take a look at some interesting facts from Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy that you can find out below.
- Square Enix’s Second Marvel Game

Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy is the second game to adapt the story of the Marvel superhero that Square Enix has worked on with Eidos Montreal. Previously, the Japanese company had released Marvel’s Avengers last year. Unlike the first game, the second game presents the adventures of the Guardians of the Galaxy group consisting of Star Lord, Groot, Rocket Raccoon, Gamora, and Drax.
Several sources, both from the comics and the film, inspire the depiction of characters with a new interpretation. The story in this game is also developed, not based on movies or comics.
- Different Characters from the MCU Version

Just like in the first game, the concept of Star-Lord and his friends in Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy is more inspired by the Guardians of the Galaxy comics with exclusive character designs from Eidos Montreal. It can be said that this game is a combination of film and comic versions with a distinctive touch from Eidos Montreal.
- Only Present Single Player Mode

Eidos Montreal’s senior narrative director, Mary DeMarle, revealed that Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy is a single-player game. There is no indication that the game will get a multiplayer mode at launch or in the future.
The story of Guardians of the Galaxy begins when things are in chaos. The Guardians accidentally trigger a series of incidents that can lead to catastrophic events. All of these events started after the “Galactic War.” Only the Guardians can fix the mess by taking on the iconic villains from the Guardians of the Galaxy.
- Bring Elements of Humor and Music

Like the Guardians of the Galaxy film released by the MCU, this game will focus on elements of humor and music. Olivier Proulx, the senior producer of Eidos Montreal, explained that this game is a mix of rock and roll and sci-fi.
Eidos Montreal has licensed 80’s music, including; Iron Maiden, New Kids on the Block, KISS, and Joan Jett. This is done so that the music becomes one unit with the storyline and gameplay. Players can also feel the same way when the developer is working on this game.
- Just Play As Star Lord

Despite featuring all members of the Guardians of the Galaxy, Star-Lord is the only playable character. However, he can still control the team’s movements, including when fighting.
Later, Star-Lord will also manage the team’s strategy and combine the abilities of each member while in battle. In other words, Guardians of the Galaxy is an action game wrapped in strategy elements.
- No Microtransactions and DLC

The team from Eidos Montreal says that the game has no DLC or microtransactions, all of which are fully available on October 26 at release.
- Available for Multiple Platforms

Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy is planned for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X on October 26, 2021.
